Singapore 1/2 Marathon is Sold Out

So one of the drawing points for coming to south east Asia was so that Clive could go into the various marathons that happen almost monthly in places that are about one hour away from us by air. The past year as been busy getting things established, so the first real travel run we had planned for was to the run in Singapore. It is scheduled for the end of May, so like most of these events, we thought that we had lots of time to register.  Especially as their web site has lots of "coming soon" disclaimers on various subject areas, including the one for overseas travelers. Well, think again.
Singapore Marathon must be very popular. It is not until you try to register, that you get the message that the 10K and 1/2 Marathon are full.
So Clive wrote to the organizers and they replied to tell us that there were events in Singapore where we could get registered as part of that promotion, but to register from out of the country, overseas, we were out of luck. I to wrote to the corporate sponsor, who is apparently doing a promotion with spaces available, but they have not replied and a second email to the organizers of the marathon, was replied to advising me that if I knew someone in Singapore I could get them to pick up an entry at the sponsor stores today. Not knowing anyone in Singapore, that option is also out of the question. So it appears there are spaces, but not if you are outside of Singapore. I did get another nice message from the organizers apologizing for not being able to enter and suggesting for next year it is best to register in November. So for any of you runners who might be thinking of doing the Singapore run, make sure you plan wellllllllll in advance!

Unfortunately, probably bad planning on our part, we had secured flights. Which we thought prudent, to do first. Thinking that better to make sure we could get a flight there than to register and then not be able to get a room or flight. Lesson learned. Clive will now register well in advance of these events. The upside is that we are committed to a trip to Singapore at the end of May, so it is a great opportunity to see more of this part of the world.
